The journey at a glance

The two cities are linked by fast highways, and the drive typically takes around one and a half to two hours depending on your start and end points and traffic. The main routes are Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) along the coast and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) further inland.

Your options

Intercity bus

The most economical choice. Check the operator’s current schedules and stops before travelling.

Taxi

Convenient but metered; costs add up over the distance.

Self-drive

Flexible if you are comfortable with UAE roads, speed cameras and parking in an unfamiliar city.

Private chauffeur

Door-to-door with a fixed quote, and the car can wait for your return. See Dubai to Abu Dhabi transfer.

A simple day-trip plan

  • Leave Dubai mid-morning to avoid the worst traffic
  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (check visiting hours and dress code)
  • Lunch, then the museums on Saadiyat Island
  • Sunset on the Corniche or Yas Island before returning

Flying from Abu Dhabi?

If your flight departs from Zayed International (AUH), plan your pickup with plenty of margin. Arriving in Abu Dhabi but staying in Dubai? See Abu Dhabi to Dubai.
